Virginia’s Prescription Monitoring Program
The Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) will undergo a major software enhancement
beginning at 6PM Wednesday, November 9th. The program will not be available from that time
through 8AM Monday, November 14th.
The new PMP software provides several enhancements over the previous version:
• User-directed password reset: Registered users will no longer have to contact program
staff to reset passwords. Users who have set their security questions may change their
password online 24/7 by answering the security questions and typing in the special
characters in the additional security feature.
• Requested reports are listed in chronological order and a search feature to pull up old
reports has been added. No need to change drop-downs to access different types of
reports.
• Auto-suggest feature: Once a request has been entered on a patient, subsequent requests
for the same patient will allow you to select the patient to auto-populate the request
fields.
• New software enhancement allows for the use of new reporting standards which
improves the quality of information in the PMP report. For example, the date the
prescription was written and whether the prescription is a new or refill Prescription are
now required elements of the PMP report.
• New Reporting requirement: As of October 1, 2011, dispensers are required to report
Schedule II-IV prescriptions within 7 days of dispensing.
